Rainy Season= Greenness

Image
It's the end of rainy season here in Niger and it's been a good one. July and August have had some substantial rainfalls, which makes for a green desert......at least for a few months. Just round the corner and down the dirt road from the school are rice fields. Yup, you read that correctly. Rice fields growing in the desert....during rainy season. As I was taking pictures, these boys paused in their walk and were curious about what I was doing. They were quite eager to pose for a picture and seemed to like the result. So very thankful for the rain....for the coolness and colour that it brings. "He it is who makes the clouds rise at the end of the earth, who makes lightning for the rain and brings forth the wind from his storehouses." Psalm 135:7

Here We Go...

After arriving back from my time at home, I "hit the ground running" as we prepared to welcome our new and returning staff for the 2014-2015 school year. This year marks my 25th year in Christian education, I am amazed and blessed that the Lord has allowed me to do the two things I love: teach and travel. Our 160+ students and their parents were welcomed back to school with an opening assembly. These grade one students were very excited to get back to school. This week was also my 47th birthday. Yup, I'm that old! After a day of being serenaded with the Happy Birthday" song, I came home to a lovely surprise thanks to my neighbours. A celebratory dinner with some lovely friends followed with.... chocolate cake for dessert. What more could a girl ask for!
