Back to school....

Well, after some lovely vacation time on the Gentle Island with family and friends, it's back to Niger I go for year #3. I kept forgetting to take pictures during our first week of school, so here we are on week #2.
 The summer rains have left our campus nice and green. A lovely site that we get enjoy until the temperatures are turned up.
We have 167 students this year from K-12 representing many different countries.
The mornings fly by for me here at school as this year I am teaching grade 6 and 7 science class along with a little principalling/directoring on the side.
I get to spend my lunch time with these cuties. There is never a dull amount as I monitor our noon time meal.
Another school year is off and running....here we go!

    Welcome to my new home!   Come on in and sit for awhile. It is a cozy apartment with 2 bedrooms so if anyone would like to come and visit I have a room ready and waiting.   Here's my room. There is a nice big closet and shelf just outside the picture. Yup......indoor plumbing is a wonderful thing. Toilet handle is on top of the toilet. Shower is there behind the shower curtain. Welcome to my Kitchen...

Preparing meals in Niger is......challenging. The produce, that has been bought at the local market, needs to be soaked in a solution of bleach and water for 20 minutes. Then rinsed with filtered water, lettuce needs to be rinsed especially well.....lesson learned just recently. There is no microwave in the kitchen....so planning meals ahead of time is a must. Rice is aplenty here. Before cooking the rice, it needs to be rinsed several times to dispose of the weevils that might be abiding in the bag. Freezing the bag after purchasing, it kills the larvae, so we just need to get rid of the adult black bugs. Flour is frozen and then sifted before use to avoid and critters in the baking. Pork is now available here, surprising for a mostly Muslim country. You can buy your chicken frozen at the grocery store or alive at the local market. I prefer the frozen kind, no defeathering required. I have a gas stove for the first time. I'm trying to improve my record of 4 matches to light ...

Handle With Prayer.....

Stress...it happens to all of us wherever we might be and the mission field is no exception. To say that the last few weeks have been stressful, would be an understatement. Two weeks ago, Mike, our secondary principal, received word that his father had gone home to be with the Lord. Both he and our director, Brian had to return to the states for family emergencies, leaving me in charge....and the stress level rose. Last Sunday, my friend and co-worker, Nancy received word that her mother had gone to glory. Nancy is back in BC now preparing for her mother's funeral. This coming week, sees Brian, our director, travelling to Uganda to help with an ACSI accreditation team and three of our teachers travelling with our seniors to Barkina Faso and Benin. Please pray that everyone stays well this week as we are stretched to fill in all the holes of the missing staff. Please pray for Mike and Nancy as they grieve the loss of their loved ones.
